Spelling! Color Can Make It Stick!

Today I took 10 spelling words, wrote them on an art pad, and instructed Lulu to dot the blends in one color and the vowels in a different color. Blends are letters that make one sound when they are written together ~ st, bl, str, spr, etc. (See the needed correction? It’s easy to see when it’s in color!)

We used Do-a-Dot markers. I learned about them from Erica at Confessionsofahomeschooler.com.  You can get them at Amazon. You can use this activity for teaching word patterns, blends, vowel, digraphs (vowel teams), and to just “write” spelling words in a fun way. Image

Happy spelling…. I am off to correct that “spr” blend!
